Bergteamet AB signs major underground contracts

Bergteamet AB has signed two major contracts for underground work. In Zinkgruvan, the company will perform drifting and reinforcement at several levels of the mine. In Kiruna, staff from Bergteamet will be involved in preparing the ore body for caving.
Bergteamet AB has come to an agreement with Zinkgruvan Mining AB regarding extensive underground work in the Zinkgruvan mine, about 50 km south of Örebro. The project, which has already started, will employ some 15 persons and will last for three years. The main work involves drifting and rock reinforcement at several levels in the mine. The value of the entire contract is more than SEK 100 million. Since Bergteamet started working at Zinkgruvan in 2001, the company has gradually invested in top modern equipment, including the latest machinery available in the market for underground work.
Bergteamet AB has also come to an agreement with LKAB regarding extensive underground work in the Kiruna mine. This project concerns the so called Development, where the ore body is prepared for caving by constructing a large system of tunnels. The contract runs for one year at the time, for up to three years. The total value of the entire contract is approx. SEK 300 million. The project has already started. Bergteamet AB has delivered services to the Development at Kiruna between year 2005 and 2009. During the financial crisis last year, the work was interrupted at the time for the holidays, because of weak order intake at LKAB. Now the wind has shifted and the order intake for LKAB’s products has increased considerably.
- Bergteamet is of course enormously proud of LKAB and Zinkgruvan Mining AB giving us the confidence to execute the now contracted assignments. We regard these orders as an acknowledgement of the quality of the work we have accomplished until now, says Christer Gyllengahm, CEO for Bergteamet AB.
- We consider our fleet of machinery for what we call “Under Ground Services” to be the most modern in Sweden, which guarantees that we have the capacity to execute the work included in the contracts. Work that shall be carried out in the right time, with the right quality and to the agreed price. Besides that, we have a fantastic force of skilled members of the staff in place, which we know have the competence required to perform this type of work, Christer Gyllengahm concludes.
