Water supply to mines in the middle of the Sahara desert makes heavy demands on the pipeline. ENOR Spa found that the Alvenius Thermoplastic coated pipes and Victaulic couplings were the best solution.

The high values of metals bring on large investments in the mining industry. When decisions were made by ENOR Spa to increase their output of gold ore on two mine sites in the southern part of Algeria, Tirek and Amesmessa, a number of problems were to be considered. One difficulty was the fact that these mines are situated in the middle of the Sahara desert and that the project was to supply the mines with process and drinking water by pipeline. The lack of skilled labour posed a serious problem and ENOR Spa also found the water to be corrosive.

Combined, these problems convinced ENOR Spa that Alvenius Thermoplastic coated pipes and Victaulic couplings were the best solution. The plastic coating eliminates the risk of corrosion and easy installation is made possible with the quick coupling.

The first 44 km of steel pipes were delivered by Alvenius Industrier in 2007. To date Alvenius has delivered more than 100 km of plastic coated steel pipes with fittings to ENOR Spa. The installations have been successful, helping the mine to increase their output of gold ore.
